he's here!!!

Damon Michael Boam---- born Friday September 21.  9 lbs. 4 oz.  20 inches long

Our baby boy is finally here!! After being dilated to a 5 for 2 weeks and a 4 for a week before that, and having my membranes stripped twice, lets just say we were more than ready! :)  Last Thursday Mike had to work so i spent the night just bumming around.  I went to take Mike dinner for his break around 9:15 and felt just fine.  I came back home and was just finishing my book when i thought i felt a contraction.  This was around 10:30.  I felt another one about 10 minutes later and they kept coming pretty consistently after that.  Mike had another break at 11, so i called and told him to come home.  We tried going for a walk, and i got in the bathtub, but they kept coming faster and stronger so we headed up to the hospital.  We got there around 12:30 and i was dilated to a 6.  Luckily they were able to give me an epidural stat! Good thing because i'm pretty sure i would have died without it ;).  At 2:30 I was dilated to a 10 and the nurse said they would normally let me rest for an hour before i started pushing, but she was off at 3:00 so she was just going to tell the new nurse to have me start pushing when she got there.  She came back in the room at 2:45 and said she decided to just have me start now and get the baby here before she was off.  I wasn't sure if she was serious or not because they had said it was normal to have to push anywhere from 1-3 hours.  But they had me start and he was born at 3:00 am on the dot.  Pretty quick labor! I think that made it totally worth the 3 weeks of waiting and thinking it could be any time.  We are absolutely loving having him here even though we don't really know what we are doing.  So far he is a very content baby, and sleeps great at night.  Lets just hope it lasts!!

wow

It has really been awhile since I have posted on here, and a LOT has happened!  I had a class where I did student teaching in the preschool up on campus for the summer.  It ended last week so I am finally getting a little summer break. It was pretty fun, but definitely had it's moments.  I think its safe to say I have no plans of becoming a preschool teacher....

Mike is now working at Convergys.  He seems to like it okay.  Not his lifelong career choice by any means, but it pays the bills.

I am now 30 weeks along!  Hard to believe right?  Our baby boy is due September 28.  Sometimes I feel like it is never going to get here, and other times I feel like I'm not ready at all and I need at least a couple more months to get ready.  But ready or not, he is coming and we are SOOOOO excited!!
I realize that after a few months of nothing this is a pretty pathetic update, but I will really try to be better!

pinterest attempts (ITLS 4015)

Mike gave me some roses for Valentines day when we were dating. I hung them up to dry in my parents basement, and that is where they have been ever since. I saw a cute idea on pinterest to put them in the shape of a heart in a shadow box. There was only one dozen, so I just had to do the outline of the heart. Amber helped me and we got them all glued on and it looked pretty good. Then I went to put the paper in the shadow box, and the roses were too tall. So we ended up not putting the back of the box on, and just putting the paper in there so it would squish them less. They still got squished a little, so it doesn't look as good as it did at first. BOO!

Once we finished with the roses we were talking about this cool crayon thing we had both seen. You use hot glue to glue crayons to a canvas, and then melt them with a hair dryer. We decided to give it a try. We were at my parents house and didn't want to drive all the way into Logan to buy a canvas to put it on. So we decided to try a 'rough draft'. I used crayola crayons on a piece of textured card stock, and Amber used cheaper crayons on poster paper. (We tried a little bit of everything to see what would turn out the best) The crayola crayons melted a lot darker and thicker. The cheaper crayons melted and the wax was a little more see through, but it melted together cooler (sorry I don't have a pic of that one). Anyways, it worked out better than we thought. The paper curls up a little at the bottom and when it does the wax cracks and falls off, but we weren't planning on keeping these ones anyways so its okay. Now that we know what crayons are better and that it actually works, we are planning on making good ones on canvas this weekend. Hopefully they work!!!! :)

Tilly's new house

A long time ago Mike decided he wanted to build a new house for Tilly. We put it off for a long time, but finally decided to really make one. Mike and my dad built the whole thing. My contribution was painting and telling them what to do :) It turned out to be a LOT bigger than I thought it would be, especially in our tiny living room. We put her in it for the first time today, and I'm not really sure if she likes it.... hopefully she gets used to it, cuz it took a lot of time and work, and it is staying!!

After it was all built, we painted it blue

then we put a brown glaze over it.
it was harder to do than I thought, but I
think it turned out okay.

Mike putting the finishing touches
on the inside

completely finished

The inside- Yes it has two levels, and yes that is a banister at the top.
What can i say, the men were creative! Mike's mom said to keep
this as a dollhouse for our kids and not put the turtle in it.
Hopefully my dad will just build another one when that
time comes :)
